He knew he was being watched. His eyes darted back and forth faster with each passing second. Even from the distance I was at, watching him in his bedroom window, I could hear his heart beat throbbing. I could almost see his chest moving with it as he turned away from the window. I loved the fear and I loved the hunt.

"He knows," Alice told me. She was my sister for all intents and purposes.

"I know." I smiled as I prepared to drop from the tree I was watching him from.

"This isn't going to be easy," she said. I turned to look at her as she stood behind me on a higher branch.

"Why? Three of them, three of us? What's so hard about it?" Rosalie asked. She was my other sister.

"The red haired one there," Alice said, pointing at the one I had been watching. "He hears us and alerts the others. They are going to be loud. Something is different about him." Alice is able to see the future. Her little ability was very useful at times.

"I'll take care of him," I told her, licking my lips, coating them with the venom that filled my mouth as I anxiously awaited the taste of his blood.

"I think you are the only one who can. He won't hear you approach." I turned to glare at my dark haired sister. How can a mere human hear me if I do not wish for him too? I thought to myself. No others ever have. "I told you, there is something different about him. I think he has an increased hearing, but either way, he won't hear you."

"Alright." I nodded as I focused on the two other bodies in the house. "Which ones are you going for?"

"The one on the end is mine," Rosalie said with a growl. "I can smell him the strongest."

"Fine with me, I want the other." Alice brought her hands together with a smile.

"Let's go."

The three of us jumped off the tree and started running towards the house. As I focused on my target, my sisters blurred out of my vision. All I saw was him, but just as Alice made contact with the house, the boy turned to look in her direction.

As I scaled the wall and hopped into his open window, his head darted into my direction. His deep green eyes locked with mine and I slowly stalked closer to him. His shook his head and I smiled.

"Hello there," I said, using my seductive voice. His eyes glazed over as his body froze. I had him.

"H-Hi," he stuttered.

"You are quiet an attractive young man. Your blood smells even better though," I whispered to him.

His eyes snapped back into focus. Just as I was about to close the distance, he jerked away, and started yelling out, sounding completely horrified.

"Garrett!" he yelled just after we both heard small whimper in the next room.

"Shut up," I hissed, taking the last steps to him, slamming his body into the wall with my hand at his neck.

"W-what are you?"

"Do not speak," I growled when he didn't listen. His voice was almost familiar. I didn't want to hear it anymore.

"Bloo… A-are you a v-vamp-" His mind was shutting down on him as he tried to process what was happening. So many humans are the same, I thought.

"Shut up!" I yelled into his face. Just as I did, I heard and agonized scream coming from the next room. I smiled as I kept my eyes locked on his. "What's your name?" I asked him.

"A-Anthony," he stuttered again. I narrowed my eyes at him. This is leading towards one fucked up night, I thought.

"Well, Anthony. Are you up for a little game?"

"No."

"Aw, well too bad."

The more I looked at him, the more he really did remind me of my mate from years ago, Edward. I felt and old ache form in my chest where my dead heart was. The memories were hard. My anger always got the best of me when I was reminded of him, of the whole event.

About sixty years ago, my family and I were caught up in a fight with a nomad. We had our own little coven, the six of us were very happy together. The nomad was angry with us for killing her mate, but he deserved his death. He had killed Alice's only living relatives. Alice was the youngest vampire; her only sister was about thirty when James, the nomad's mate, killed her and her children. She was outside in the yard playing with her two daughters when he just walked up and killed them all without a second thought.

Alice liked to visit them without them knowing and it just happened to be while we were nearby when he did it. She was too broken up and in shock when she got the vision to react any other way than breaking down into a mess on the ground. Edward and I were with her at the time, he saw it in her mind since he was a mind reader and grabbed me by the arm and we took off. We had no time to inform our other family members, so we took care of him ourselves. Unfortunately, Alice didn't get her vision until it was too late. Her sister and her children's bodies laid mutilated in the yard. I couldn't bare the sight of it and would have thrown up if I had had anything in my stomach to throw up. There are a few things that still get to vampires. At least they did for me anyway. One thing I always believed was children and mothers were off limits.

I couldn't understand how he could have been so cruel and sick to be so brutal to a family the way he did. I did not go easy on James. Edward and I tortured him for hours before we finally burned him. What we did not know was he had a mate, Victoria, and she was in the area as well. She planned her revenge for months. Even though we left the area, she still found us, four states away. She created an army of newborn vampires to destroy us. She just so happen to strike while my sisters and I were hunting.

The guys had stayed behind since they had gone hunting the night before; also, they were in a heated argument about a sports team. Their fights always ended up with destroyed furniture and we didn't want to be there for any of that. But when we returned, there was nothing left but our burning home and the stench of at least twenty different vampire and the deaths of our loved ones.

We hunted that bitch down for years, finally catching up with her five years later. She was without her army, so she was easy to take down. What she received was worse than what Edward and I had done to James. What we did was nowhere near as bad as what she deserved. But because of her antics with the newborns, Alice saw that the Volturi was coming and we had to make it quick and get away. We knew the Volturi would want us if they found us. Our abilities would have been valuable to them.

While Alice saw the future, based on the decisions that were made, Rosalie was able to hypnotize people with her beauty, making them do whatever she wanted them to do. I had a much different kind of ability. Not only was I a shield towards mental attacks, I had a little bubble that could project and protect others as well, but it also increased the abilities of those inside the bubble. While I barely had use for it, we knew the Volturi would have plenty to use it for. I didn't want to be a guard member; I wanted to keep what little freedom I had.

My sisters and I found little enjoyment in life after our mates' deaths. When it came to hunting, we did what we could to have fun; we barely had any limits anymore. But as I stood their staring at the boy in front of me it wasn't only his name that reminded me, which was Edward's middle name, but his voice, eyes, face and hair reminded me of my Edward. The venom in my body felt as if it was boiling.

My grip on his neck tightened as we heard the yells coming from other parts in the house. I smiled at Anthony again and I released my hold on him. I stood back, waiting for him to move and just like I expected, he ran. As soon as he reached the top of the stairs, I flew past him, tripping him as I moved to the bottom. He tumbled down, yelling out in pain and he clunked his way down, banging his head, elbows and knees on each step and the wall. Just before he was about to land face first on the ground, I reached up and caught him. I held him up by his throat as he cried out.

"Are you not having fun yet?" I asked him, amused. I barely felt any emotions. I had no guilt for my actions. After so long without Edward, I had nothing. When he was taken away from me, he took my soul, my sanity and well… he took everything with him. He was never sure if vampires had souls and I had no proof to offer him, but I soon learned when he wasn't there, that finally had my proof. I knew whatever soul I had left before was ripped away from me when he was. All that was left was a cold dead body of a woman with nothing left to exist for, yet I couldn't bring myself to die for a final time.

"P-please," he begged, his voice muffled by his sobs.

"Please what, honey?" I asked, smiling.

"L-let me g-g-go," he sobbed.

"Sorry. I can't do that."

I flung him over onto the couch, probably a little too hard since the damn thing flipped over. Anthony rolled over the side and tried to crawl away. I let him get a little farther; I could feel his hope rising that maybe I would change my mind. Again, all humans were the same in that area. I moved quickly in front of him, pushing my foot down on his back, flattening him to the ground. I moved my foot, and stepped on the back of his knee, listening to the sound of the bone crushing under the pressure. He yelled out louder than before.

With the tip of my shoe, I nudged him over onto his back. His face soaked with tears. I crawled over on top of him, pressing my body into him. I was debating on ending it right then, or playing some more when suddenly he suddenly yelled out, but not in a way I was expecting.

"No! Don't!" he cried.

"What the fuck," a female voice shrieked as she came in through the front door and laid her eyes on me and Anthony. I must have been too distracted to hear her myself. Strange that he did though, I thought.

"Oh, it's not what it looks like," I said, faking my surprise. Her eyes widened when she looked at his face.

"Anthony…" she whispered, her hand covering her mouth. Her eyes met mine. "Oh. Oh my God!" She turned quickly and attempted to dart back out the door, but before she could even take a step, I already had the door closed and her pinned to it.

"Oh, I don't think so darling. You picked the wrong night to visit your boyfriend."

I had her held by shoulders against the wall. She was wearing a mini skirt and a low cut tank top that revealed a little too much cleavage. Normal clothing for a summer night in Texas. I moved hand down to her waist and slowly moved it up her body, I stopped at her chest as the palm of my hand cupped her right breast tightly then I moved it back up to her throat. I ran a finger from one side to the other, barely touching her, the movements causing her to shiver.

"I don't suppose you want to play too?" I whispered, giving her my best smile.

"N-no," she whispered.

"Good," I said, snatching my hand away from her skin. "You're not my type anyway." I grabbed onto her jaw tightly and jerking it hard to the side, feeling the snapping of her neck vibrate through her body. I moved her hair from her face, grabbing onto it and turned my attention back to Anthony who was halfway crawling towards the kitchen. I laughed at his determination.

I drug the girl's body behind me as I slowly walked back over to him. He looked up at me as I knelt down in front of him, pulling the girl's body into his sight. He mumbled something that sounded like Kate and started crying harder.

"So you want to see what I have in store for you?" I asked him, tilting the body so her neck was exposed. He just dropped his head to the ground. "Look at me!" I growled, shoving him so he was facing up towards me. He did as I said and kept his eyes on mine, then my mouth. While I had his eye, I sunk my teeth into the girl's neck, sucking her on her skin to pull some of her blood into my mouth.

"Oh, God," he cried, closing his eyes.

"Even he can't save you now." I threw the girl's body aside, not caring to waste any more time with her.

I picked him up gently and walked over to the couch as I kicked it to make it facing up right again. I sat him down and listened to the rest of the house for a moment. I realized then that it was quiet. Rose and Alice must have already finished. They didn't like to play with their food as much as I did. Sometimes I would lure them into sex first and kill after, more often though I would just toss them around a little. That was actually more fun. Sex was meaningless unless it was with Edward. Call me pathetic if you want - though I wouldn't if I were you - but he was everything to me. The love between vampires and their mates was something unbreakable. Even in death.

I propped Anthony up on the couch in a sitting position. His whimpers were slowly fading as the pain of his wounds took over. I was growing bored with him. I hovered over him, looking into his eyes. I felt that ache return, the mixture between thirst and a broken heart, as it struck through my body like lightening. I grabbed his face and titled it up. I brought my mouth to his neck, inhaling as I licked from one side to the other. I found the place where his pulse throbbed the hardest and punctured the skin a little with my teeth and a little drip of blood rolled out. As it ran down his neck and to his collarbone I licked up the trail, sucking lightly at the opening. He screamed from the burn of the venom, but I sucked it back out.

The thirst was becoming unbearable and I realized I was done with my games. I pulled back once more, looking at his face. His eyes were closed and his lips were in a pulled into a stiff line, he was preparing himself. I gave into the bloodlust and quickly sunk my teeth deep into the skin where I had already bitten before; sucking harder, pulling at his blood while his heart pumped it into my mouth. His blood was thick and sweet almost like a warmed honey. With each swallow, it dimmed the fire the shot through me and soon the burn was gone.

I listened as he slowly slipped away from his body. His whimpers faded and his head went limp into my hand. Just a few moments later, there was nothing left of him to take. I released him and his slumped over the side of the couch. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand in case of any excess blood and took in the rest of the house. It was dark with a dim light from the moon shining in, causing lifeless face to glow. I could still see the girl's body lying awkwardly in the doorway of the kitchen.

I walked back up the stairs slowly and stopped outside of the first bedroom door. I opened the door and walked in, eyeing the room. I found what looked to be Rosalie's meal lying face down in the middle of his room. A lamp was broke on the ground, books where spread out surrounding his body and a chair was knocked over. He must have put up a fight. I walked back out and moved into the next room. It was dark the smell of blood filled my senses. I flipped on a light and saw a bit of blood splattered on the wall with the window. A handprint was smeared in it. The body was propped up in a chair, hands rested on his lap as if he was just looking out the window, but his eyes were closed. His clothes were drenched with his blood. I laughed for a moment, wondering if Alice had even drunk any after the mess she made. I flipped the light off and closed the door again and made my way back down stairs. I walked out the door and followed the scent of my sisters to back to the previous tree where they waited for me.

Once I made it to them, they were sitting on the branches in silence.

"I see we all had an interesting meal tonight," I said with a laugh.

"The dumbass tried to fight me and threw books at me." Rosalie laughed with me.

I tuned my head to Alice. "What was with the mess?" I asked her.

"Easy bleeder I guess." She shrugged. "I may have pushed a little too hard on his chest; a rib cracked and broke through the skin. As for the splatter, well… I don't remember how that happened." She smiled innocently.

"Burn it?" I asked after a moment, since it would be hard to cover that up.

"Yeah, I thought about that. It's far enough out that it will have time to burn evidence before anyone calls it in."

"Alright."

The three of us made our way back to the house. We decided to start the fire in room with all of the blood. I ran upstairs and prepared a pile of bed sheets to start the fire. Rosalie went into the kitchen and discovered that the there was a gas stove. She set it up so that when the flames reached the stove, the house stood even less of a chance than with a regular fire. We had to be quick though so neither of us got caught up in the flames. Alice sat outside watching for anything to go wrong, but everything seemed to work as planned.

It was sort of a normal thing with us. We'd find a home with more than a few adults; kill, then find a way to cover it up. Fires seemed to be the easiest.

Once the fire was set, we ran out of the house and stood far enough to watch the house burn. Once the whole thing went up in flames, we walked away, heading in whatever direction we would be going to next. We never did really know, we just traveled, stopping only when we needed too. Occasionally we'd visit old friends.

By the looks of her mood, I thought that Alice was in need of visiting two of Jasper's old friends. The times she missed her mate the most, she always wanted to see Peter and Charlotte. It helped her remember who she was and not get lost in the violence. For Rose and I, Carlisle and Esme were who we went too when we felt that way. They were like parents to us. Rose and her mate Emmet, Edward, Alice, Jasper and I visited them often in the past. Esme had a way to help me remember the best parts of myself and my time with Edward. Because she didn't like our choice in lifestyle, we could never live with her and Carlisle, but when we needed them most, she looked passed it.

The three of us never split up, we went everywhere together, even if one didn't want too. We were all each other had left and we all kept each other strong. We knew our choice in lifestyle wasn't the best, but that's just how we coped with the shit we had been dealt.

After all, we were vampires. We lived up to what was expected of our kind. We had our chance at normal, but when it was stolen from us, we owed no one anything. We cared for only each other and the few others we knew. All we knew of anymore was blood, violence and family. We did okay with that.

So we ran into the night, the moon causing the forest trees to glow as is blurred by us. It reminded me of Anthony's face, but before I could feel any guilt, I was reminded of Edward. As I ran, I pictured his always messy bronze hair and the way it blew with the wind when we would run together, the way his red eyes would seem glow even in the dark and the way his crooked smile made me almost feel alive again.

The pain only seemed to grow as the time passed. People have always said things get better in time, but I have never heard anything more wrong. I found it harder and harder to go through life, or whatever you could call it, without him. I knew it wouldn't be long before I found a way to join my sweet Edward. But for the time being, I would remain with my sisters until I felt the time was right.
